Sanchar Saathi SIM check: find and report connections on your name

OTP on your numberReport extra SIMsUpdated 16 Oct 2026

The Sanchar Saathi SIM check, listed on the portal as "Know mobile connections in your name" and still widely called TAFCOP, shows every mobile number issued against your identity. If a number you never took appears in the list, you can report it so the operator re-verifies it and disconnects it if needed.

Fraudsters sometimes use copied documents to get SIM cards for scams. The connection then sits on your name. A two-minute check every few months is an easy habit, and this guide explains each step and what the result means.

What the TAFCOP Sanchar Saathi portal shows

Search results show it as tap cop or taf cop Sanchar Saathi too, but the correct short form is TAFCOP. It stands for Telecom Analytics for Fraud management and Consumer Protection. It matches subscriber records from all operators and groups connections taken with the same identity details. When you log in with your number, it lists the other numbers grouped with yours, with most digits hidden for privacy.

The list covers mobile connections from every operator, prepaid and postpaid. You do not type an Aadhaar number or upload anything. The check uses the identity already recorded against the number you log in with. So a Sanchar Saathi Aadhaar SIM check in practice means checking the connections tied to the documents you gave for that SIM.

Steps for the Sanchar Saathi know your mobile connection check

  1. Open tafcop.sancharsaathi.gov.in, or go to the main portal and choose "Know mobile connections in your name".
  2. Enter your 10-digit mobile number and the captcha.
  3. Tap to get the OTP, type it and log in. There is no separate login registration or password on tafcop sanchar saathi gov in.
  4. Read the list of connections shown against your identity.
  5. For any number that is not yours, or that you no longer use, tick it and pick the matching option.
  6. Submit the report and note the reference or ticket ID if the portal shows one.

The whole process runs online in a browser. There is no SMS code for this check, unlike the KYM handset check.

Not my number or Not required: which to choose

OptionMeansPick it when
Not my numberYou never took this connectionA number you do not recognise at all is on your name
Not requiredIt is yours but you no longer want itAn old SIM you stopped using, or one taken for a family member who now has their own
Leave it untickedYou still use itYour current SIMs, including ones used by family under your name that you want to keep

Think before reporting a number used by a parent or child. If it was taken on your documents and you tick it, that SIM can be disconnected.

What happens after you report

Your report goes to the operator that issued the connection. The operator re-verifies the subscriber against its records. A connection that cannot be verified is cut off, and a "Not required" connection is closed. Timelines are set by DoT and the operator, so check status on the same portal rather than relying on a fixed number of days.

You may get SMS updates from the portal or the operator. Genuine updates do not ask you for an OTP, a payment or a call back to a mobile number.

Example: Priya logs in and sees four connections. Two are hers, one is an old SIM she stopped using, and one starts with digits she has never seen. She marks the old SIM "Not required" and the unknown one "Not my number", submits, and saves the reference shown on screen.

How many SIM cards one person can hold

DoT rules cap how many mobile connections one person can hold across all operators: nine in most of India and fewer in a few service areas such as Jammu and Kashmir, Assam and the North East. Connections above the limit can be flagged for re-verification. If your list shows more than you expected, report extras through the portal rather than waiting.

When to go beyond the portal

If the unknown number was used to cheat you or others, or money has left your account, call 1930 and file on cybercrime.gov.in. Keep a screenshot of the portal list and your reference. For a phone that is lost or stolen, the SIM check is not the right tool; you need the CEIR block explained in our lost mobile guide. To spot a fake or cloned handset, use KYM, covered on our Sanchar Saathi overview.

Safety notes

Only you can log in, because the OTP goes to your phone. Never read out that OTP to a caller who says they will check your SIMs for you. Type the TAFCOP address yourself, as look-alike pages exist. The check is free.

Sometimes people search for "SIM IMEI number" together with this check. A SIM card carries no IMEI at all. That 15-digit code is tied to the phone itself, as our IMEI number explainer shows.

Frequently asked questions

Is tafcop sanchar saathi gov in an official site?

Yes. tafcop.sancharsaathi.gov.in is the official address of the Know mobile connections in your name service run by DoT. Look-alike spellings such as tap cop or taf cop in search results may lead to unofficial pages.

Does a Sanchar Saathi mobile number check use Aadhaar?

You do not enter an Aadhaar number. You log in with your mobile number and OTP, and the portal shows connections linked to the same identity details.

Does TAFCOP need login registration?

No account is created. Each visit, you enter your number and captcha, receive an OTP and log in for that session. The same check is also inside the optional Sanchar Saathi app.

Will reporting Not required block my phone?

It only closes that SIM connection. The handset itself is not blocked; handset blocking is a separate CEIR service.

How do I check the status of my report?

Log in again on the same portal and look for the status option, using the reference or ticket ID if one was shown. The operator can also tell you at its store.

Can I check SIMs on someone else's name?

No. The OTP goes only to the number entered, and results show connections on that person's identity. Ask the family member to check from their own phone.
